Jimmy Carter is a former President of the United States

Jimmy Carter is a former President of the United States who has dedicated much of his post-presidential life to humanitarian and peacekeeping efforts through the Carter Center, an organization he founded with his wife Rosalynn in 1982.

Born in Plains, Georgia in 1924, Jimmy Carter served in the U.S. Navy before entering politics, serving as a Georgia State Senator, Governor of Georgia, and ultimately, President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. During his presidency, Carter focused on human rights and the environment, signing important legislation such as the Camp David Accords, the Panama Canal Treaty, and the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act.

After leaving office, Carter and his wife Rosalynn founded the Carter Center, a nonprofit organization that focuses on global health, human rights, and conflict resolution. The center has worked on a wide range of issues, from eradicating diseases like Guinea worm and river blindness, to promoting democracy and human rights around the world, to mediating peace talks in conflict zones like North Korea, Venezuela, and Sudan.

One area of particular focus for the Carter Center has been hospice care. Hospice care is a type of medical care that provides comfort and support to patients who are in the final stages of a serious illness or disease, typically when curative treatment is no longer effective. The Carter Center's Hospice Initiative aims to improve access to hospice care and education about end-of-life care in developing countries, where such services may be limited or nonexistent.

Through the Hospice Initiative, the Carter Center has trained health care providers in palliative care and pain management, and has worked with governments and local organizations to develop hospice programs in countries such as Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia. The Carter Center has also conducted research to evaluate the impact of hospice care on patients and families, and to identify best practices for providing end-of-life care in resource-limited settings.

Jimmy Carter's legacy as a president, humanitarian, and peacemaker has been long-lasting and impactful, and the Carter Center's work in areas such as hospice care has been a vital part of that legacy
